Description:

GNU Aspell is a spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell. It can either be used as a library or as an independent spell checker. Its main feature is that it does a much better job of coming up with possible suggestions than just about any other spell checker out there for the English language, including Ispell and Microsoft Word. It also has many other technical enhancements over Ispell such as using shared memory for dictionaries and intelligently handling personal dictionaries when more than one Aspell process is open at once.

Handy Yum Commands for aspell


Control the aspell package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install aspell

This command will install aspell on the server.

yum remove aspell

This command will un-install aspell on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove aspell, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove aspell

This command will un-install aspell on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove aspell when using the -y flag.

yum update aspell

This command will update aspell to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove aspell, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update aspell

This command will update aspell to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove aspell when using the -y flag.

yum info aspell

This command will show you core information about the aspell package.

yum deplist aspell

This command will show you the dependencies for aspell. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update aspell

This command will check if there is an update waiting on aspell. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
