PTLib (Portable Tools Library) is a moderately large class library that has it's genesis many years ago as PWLib (portable Windows Library), a method to product applications to run on both Microsoft Windows and Unix systems. It has also been ported to other systems such as Mac OSX, VxWorks and other embedded systems. It is supplied mainly to support the OPAL project, but that shouldn't stop you from using it in whatever project you have in mind if you so desire.

Control the ptlib package with the following handy commands outlined below.
yum install ptlib
This command will install ptlib on the server.
yum remove ptlib
This command will un-install ptlib on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove ptlib, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
yum -y remove ptlib
This command will un-install ptlib on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove ptlib when using the -y flag.
yum update ptlib
This command will update ptlib to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove ptlib, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
yum -y update ptlib
