Description:

The w3m program is a pager (or text file viewer) that can also be used as a text-mode Web browser. W3m features include the following: when reading an HTML document, you can follow links and view images using an external image viewer; its internet message mode determines the type of document from the header; if the Content-Type field of the document is text/html, the document is displayed as an HTML document; you can change a URL description like 'http://hogege.net' in plain text into a link to that URL. If you want to display the inline images on w3m, you need to install w3m-img package as well.

Handy Yum Commands for w3m


Control the w3m package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install w3m

This command will install w3m on the server.

yum remove w3m

This command will un-install w3m on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove w3m, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove w3m

This command will un-install w3m on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove w3m when using the -y flag.

yum update w3m

This command will update w3m to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove w3m, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update w3m

This command will update w3m to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove w3m when using the -y flag.

yum info w3m

This command will show you core information about the w3m package.

yum deplist w3m

This command will show you the dependencies for w3m. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update w3m

This command will check if there is an update waiting on w3m. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
