Description:

GMT is an open source collection of ~60 tools for manipulating geographic and Cartesian data sets (including filtering, trend fitting, gridding, projecting, etc.) and producing Encapsulated PostScript File (EPS) illustrations ranging from simple x-y plots via contour maps to artificially illuminated surfaces and 3-D perspective views. GMT supports ~30 map projections and transforma- tions and comes with support data such as coastlines, rivers, and political boundaries. GMT is developed and maintained by Paul Wessel and Walter H. F. Smith with help from a global set of volunteers, and is supported by the National Science Foundation.

Handy Yum Commands for GMT


Control the GMT package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install GMT

This command will install GMT on the server.

yum remove GMT

This command will un-install GMT on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove GMT, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove GMT

This command will un-install GMT on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove GMT when using the -y flag.

yum update GMT

This command will update GMT to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove GMT, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update GMT

This command will update GMT to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove GMT when using the -y flag.

yum info GMT

This command will show you core information about the GMT package.

yum deplist GMT

This command will show you the dependencies for GMT. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update GMT

This command will check if there is an update waiting on GMT. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
