Description:

A language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. R is similar to the award-winning S system, which was developed at Bell Laboratories by John Chambers et al. It provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques (linear and nonlinear modelling, statistical tests, time series analysis, classification, clustering, ...). R is designed as a true computer language with control-flow constructions for iteration and alternation, and it allows users to add additional functionality by defining new functions. For computationally intensive tasks, C, C++ and Fortran code can be linked and called at run time. This package also has an additional dependency on java, as provided by Fedora's openJDK.

Command

Description of Command

yum install R-java

This command will install R-java on the server.

yum remove R-java

This command will un-install R-java on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove R-java, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove R-java

This command will un-install R-java on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove R-java when using the -y flag.

yum update R-java

This command will update R-java to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove R-java, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update R-java

This command will update R-java to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove R-java when using the -y flag.

yum info R-java

This command will show you core information about the R-java package.

yum deplist R-java

This command will show you the dependencies for R-java. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update R-java

This command will check if there is an update waiting on R-java. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
