Description:

check-mk is a general purpose Nagios-plugin for retrieving data. It adopts a new approach for collecting data from operating systems and network components. It obsoletes NRPE, check_by_ssh, NSClient, and check_snmp and it has many benefits, the most important are a significant reduction of CPU usage on the Nagios host and an automatic inventory of items to be checked on hosts.

Handy Yum Commands for check-mk


Control the check-mk package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install check-mk

This command will install check-mk on the server.

yum remove check-mk

This command will un-install check-mk on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove check-mk, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove check-mk

This command will un-install check-mk on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove check-mk when using the -y flag.

yum update check-mk

This command will update check-mk to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove check-mk, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update check-mk

This command will update check-mk to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove check-mk when using the -y flag.

yum info check-mk

This command will show you core information about the check-mk package.

yum deplist check-mk

This command will show you the dependencies for check-mk. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update check-mk

This command will check if there is an update waiting on check-mk. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
