Description:

Cobbler is a network install server. Cobbler supports PXE, ISO virtualized installs, and re-installing existing Linux machines. The last two modes use a helper tool, 'koan', that integrates with cobbler. There is also a web interface 'cobbler-web'. Cobbler's advanced features include importing distributions from DVDs and rsync mirrors, kickstart templating, integrated yum mirroring, and built-in DHCP/DNS Management. Cobbler has a XMLRPC API for integration with other applications.

Handy Yum Commands for cobbler


Control the cobbler package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install cobbler

This command will install cobbler on the server.

yum remove cobbler

This command will un-install cobbler on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove cobbler, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove cobbler

This command will un-install cobbler on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove cobbler when using the -y flag.

yum update cobbler

This command will update cobbler to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove cobbler, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update cobbler

This command will update cobbler to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove cobbler when using the -y flag.

yum info cobbler

This command will show you core information about the cobbler package.

yum deplist cobbler

This command will show you the dependencies for cobbler. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update cobbler

This command will check if there is an update waiting on cobbler. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
