The Common Pipeline Library (CPL) comprises a set of ISO-C libraries that provide a comprehensive, efficient and robust software toolkit. It forms a basis for the creation of automated astronomical data-reduction tasks (known as "pipelines") for ESO (European Southern Observatory) instruments. The CPL was developed to standardise the way VLT (Very Large Telescope) instrument pipelines are built, to shorten their development cycle and to ease their maintenance.

Handy Yum Commands for cpl


Control the cpl package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install cpl

This command will install cpl on the server.

yum remove cpl

This command will un-install cpl on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove cpl, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove cpl

This command will un-install cpl on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove cpl when using the -y flag.

yum update cpl

This command will update cpl to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove cpl, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update cpl

This command will update cpl to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove cpl when using the -y flag.

yum info cpl

This command will show you core information about the cpl package.

yum deplist cpl

This command will show you the dependencies for cpl. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update cpl

This command will check if there is an update waiting on cpl. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
