FreeDV Digital Voice

Description:

FreeDV is a GUI application for Windows and Linux that allows any SSB radio to be used for low bit rate digital voice. Speech is compressed down to 1400 bit/s then modulated onto a 1100 Hz wide QPSK signal which is sent to the Mic input of a SSB radio. On receive, the signal is received by the SSB radio, then demodulated and decoded by FreeDV. FreeDV was built by an international team of Radio Amateurs working together on coding, design, user interface and testing. FreeDV is open source software, released under the GNU Public License version 2.1. The FDMDV modem and Codec 2 Speech codec used in FreeDV are also open source.

Handy Yum Commands for freedv


Control the freedv package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install freedv

This command will install freedv on the server.

yum remove freedv

This command will un-install freedv on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove freedv, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove freedv

This command will un-install freedv on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove freedv when using the -y flag.

yum update freedv

This command will update freedv to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove freedv, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update freedv

This command will update freedv to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove freedv when using the -y flag.

yum info freedv

This command will show you core information about the freedv package.

yum deplist freedv

This command will show you the dependencies for freedv. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update freedv

This command will check if there is an update waiting on freedv. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
