Description:

fwsnort translates Snort rules into equivalent iptables rules and generates a Bourne shell script that implements the resulting iptables commands. In addition, fwsnort (optionally) uses the IPTables::Parse module to parse the iptables ruleset on the machine to determine which Snort rules are applicable to the specific iptables policy. fwsnort is able to translate approximately 60% of all rules from the Snort-2.3.3 IDS into equivalent iptables rules.

Handy Yum Commands for fwsnort


Control the fwsnort package with the following handy commands outlined below.

Description of Command

yum install fwsnort

This command will install fwsnort on the server.

yum remove fwsnort

This command will un-install fwsnort on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove fwsnort, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove fwsnort

This command will un-install fwsnort on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove fwsnort when using the -y flag.

yum update fwsnort

This command will update fwsnort to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove fwsnort, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update fwsnort

This command will update fwsnort to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove fwsnort when using the -y flag.

This command will show you core information about the fwsnort package.

yum deplist fwsnort

This command will show you the dependencies for fwsnort. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.
