Long Range ZIP or Lzma RZIP This is a compression program optimized for large files. The larger the file and the more memory you have, the better the compression advantage this will provide, especially once the files are larger than 100 MB. The advantage can be chosen to be either size (much smaller than bzip2) or speed (much faster than bzip2). Decompression is always much faster than bzip2.

Handy Yum Commands for lrzip


Control the lrzip package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install lrzip

This command will install lrzip on the server.

yum remove lrzip

This command will un-install lrzip on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove lrzip, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove lrzip

This command will un-install lrzip on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove lrzip when using the -y flag.

yum update lrzip

This command will update lrzip to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove lrzip, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
