Description:

mod_evasive is an evasive maneuvers module for Apache to provide evasive action in the event of an HTTP DoS or DDoS attack or brute force attack. It is also designed to be a detection and network management tool, and can be easily configured to talk to firewalls, routers, etc. mod_evasive presently reports abuses via email and syslog facilities.

Handy Yum Commands for mod_evasive


Control the mod_evasive package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install mod_evasive

This command will install mod_evasive on the server.

yum remove mod_evasive

This command will un-install mod_evasive on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove mod_evasive, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove mod_evasive

This command will un-install mod_evasive on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove mod_evasive when using the -y flag.

yum update mod_evasive

This command will update mod_evasive to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove mod_evasive, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update mod_evasive

This command will update mod_evasive to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove mod_evasive when using the -y flag.

yum info mod_evasive

This command will show you core information about the mod_evasive package.

yum deplist mod_evasive

This command will show you the dependencies for mod_evasive. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update mod_evasive

This command will check if there is an update waiting on mod_evasive. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
