Siege is an HTTP regression testing and benchmarking utility. It was designed to let web developers measure the performance of their code under duress, to see how it will stand up to load on the internet. Siege supports basic authentication, cookies, HTTP and HTTPS protocols. It allows the user hit a web server with a configurable number of concurrent simulated users. Those users place the web-server "under siege."

Handy Yum Commands for siege


Control the siege package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install siege

This command will install siege on the server.

yum remove siege

This command will un-install siege on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove siege, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove siege

This command will un-install siege on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove siege when using the -y flag.

yum update siege

This command will update siege to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove siege, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update siege

This command will update siege to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove siege when using the -y flag.

yum info siege

This command will show you core information about the siege package.

yum deplist siege

This command will show you the dependencies for siege. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.
