Description:

xmonad is a tiling window manager for X. Windows are arranged automatically to tile the screen without gaps or overlap, maximising screen use. All features of the window manager are accessible from the keyboard: a mouse is strictly optional. xmonad is written and extensible in Haskell. Custom layout algorithms, and other extensions, may be written by the user in config files. Layouts are applied dynamically, and different layouts may be used on each workspace. Xinerama is fully supported, allowing windows to be tiled on several screens. This meta-package allows running the default basic upstream xmonad configuration with xterm and dmenu. If you want to customize xmonad, please install xmonad or xmonad-gnome.

Handy Yum Commands for xmonad-basic


Control the xmonad-basic package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install xmonad-basic

This command will install xmonad-basic on the server.

yum remove xmonad-basic

This command will un-install xmonad-basic on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove xmonad-basic, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove xmonad-basic

This command will un-install xmonad-basic on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove xmonad-basic when using the -y flag.

yum update xmonad-basic

This command will update xmonad-basic to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove xmonad-basic, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update xmonad-basic

This command will update xmonad-basic to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove xmonad-basic when using the -y flag.

yum info xmonad-basic

This command will show you core information about the xmonad-basic package.

yum deplist xmonad-basic

This command will show you the dependencies for xmonad-basic. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.
