Groff is a document formatting system. Groff takes standard text and formatting commands as input and produces formatted output. The created documents can be shown on a display or printed on a printer. Groff's formatting commands allow you to specify font type and size, bold type, italic type, the number and size of columns on a page, and more. Groff can also be used to format man pages. If you are going to use groff with the X Window System, you will also need to install the groff-gxditview package.

Handy Yum Commands for groff


Control the groff package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

yum install groff

This command will install groff on the server.

yum remove groff

This command will un-install groff on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove groff, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove groff

This command will un-install groff on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove groff when using the -y flag.

yum update groff

This command will update groff to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove groff, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update groff

This command will update groff to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove groff when using the -y flag.

yum info groff

This command will show you core information about the groff package.

yum deplist groff

This command will show you the dependencies for groff. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update groff

This command will check if there is an update waiting on groff. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
