Description:

Popt is a C library for parsing command line parameters. Popt was heavily influenced by the getopt() and getopt_long() functions, but it improves on them by allowing more powerful argument expansion. Popt can parse arbitrary argv[] style arrays and automatically set variables based on command line arguments. Popt allows command line arguments to be aliased via configuration files and includes utility functions for parsing arbitrary strings into argv[] arrays using shell-like rules.

Handy Yum Commands for popt


Control the popt package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

yum install popt

This command will install popt on the server.

yum remove popt

This command will un-install popt on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove popt, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove popt

This command will un-install popt on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove popt when using the -y flag.

yum update popt

This command will update popt to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove popt, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update popt

This command will update popt to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove popt when using the -y flag.

yum info popt

This command will show you core information about the popt package.

yum deplist popt

This command will show you the dependencies for popt. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update popt

This command will check if there is an update waiting on popt. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
