Description:

The rsh-server package contains a set of programs which allow users to run commands on remote machines, login to other machines and copy files between machines (rsh, rlogin and rcp). All three of these commands use rhosts style authentication. This package contains the servers needed for all of these services. It also contains a server for rexec, an alternate method of executing remote commands. All of these servers are run by xinetd and configured using /etc/xinet.d/ and PAM. The rsh-server package should be installed to enable remote access from other machines

Handy Yum Commands for rsh-server


Control the rsh-server package with the following handy commands outlined below.

Description of Command

yum install rsh-server

This command will install rsh-server on the server.

yum remove rsh-server

This command will un-install rsh-server on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove rsh-server, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove rsh-server

This command will un-install rsh-server on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove rsh-server when using the -y flag.

yum update rsh-server

This command will update rsh-server to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove rsh-server, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update rsh-server

This command will update rsh-server to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove rsh-server when using the -y flag.

yum info rsh-server

This command will show you core information about the rsh-server package.

yum deplist rsh-server

This command will show you the dependencies for rsh-server. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update rsh-server

This command will check if there is an update waiting on rsh-server. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
