Description:

AMANDA, the Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver, is a backup system that allows the administrator of a LAN to set up a single master backup server to back up multiple hosts to one or more tape drives or disk files. AMANDA uses native dump and/or GNU tar facilities and can back up a large number of workstations running multiple versions of Unix. Newer versions of AMANDA (including this version) can use SAMBA to back up Microsoft(TM) Windows95/NT hosts. The amanda package contains the core AMANDA programs and will need to be installed on both AMANDA clients and AMANDA servers. Note that you will have to install the amanda-client and/or amanda-server packages as well.

Handy Yum Commands for amanda


Control the amanda package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install amanda

This command will install amanda on the server.

yum remove amanda

This command will un-install amanda on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove amanda, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove amanda

This command will un-install amanda on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove amanda when using the -y flag.

yum update amanda

This command will update amanda to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove amanda, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update amanda

This command will update amanda to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove amanda when using the -y flag.

yum info amanda

This command will show you core information about the amanda package.

yum deplist amanda

This command will show you the dependencies for amanda. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

This command will check if there is an update waiting on amanda. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
