The arpwatch package contains arpwatch and arpsnmp. Arpwatch and arpsnmp are both network monitoring tools. Both utilities monitor Ethernet or FDDI network traffic and build databases of Ethernet/IP address pairs, and can report certain changes via email. Install the arpwatch package if you need networking monitoring devices which will automatically keep track of the IP addresses on your network.

Handy Yum Commands for arpwatch


Control the arpwatch package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install arpwatch

This command will install arpwatch on the server.

yum remove arpwatch

This command will un-install arpwatch on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove arpwatch, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove arpwatch

This command will un-install arpwatch on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove arpwatch when using the -y flag.

yum update arpwatch

This command will update arpwatch to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove arpwatch, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update arpwatch

This command will update arpwatch to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove arpwatch when using the -y flag.

This command will show you core information about the arpwatch package.

yum deplist arpwatch

This command will show you the dependencies for arpwatch. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.
