Description:

Apache AXIS is an implementation of the SOAP ("Simple Object Access Protocol") submission to W3C. From the draft W3C specification: SOAP is a lightweight protocol for exchange of information in a decentralized, distributed environment. It is an XML based protocol that consists of three parts: an envelope that defines a framework for describing what is in a message and how to process it, a set of encoding rules for expressing instances of application-defined datatypes, and a convention for representing remote procedure calls and responses. This project is a follow-on to the Apache SOAP project.

Handy Yum Commands for axis


Control the axis package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install axis

This command will install axis on the server.

yum remove axis

This command will un-install axis on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove axis, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove axis

This command will un-install axis on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove axis when using the -y flag.

yum update axis

This command will update axis to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove axis, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update axis

This command will update axis to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove axis when using the -y flag.

yum info axis

This command will show you core information about the axis package.

yum deplist axis

This command will show you the dependencies for axis. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update axis

This command will check if there is an update waiting on axis. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
