Boost provides free peer-reviewed portable C++ source libraries. The emphasis is on libraries which work well with the C++ Standard Library, in the hopes of establishing "existing practice" for extensions and providing reference implementations so that the Boost libraries are suitable for eventual standardization. (Some of the libraries have already been proposed for inclusion in the C++ Standards Committee's upcoming C++ Standard Library Technical Report.)

Handy Yum Commands for boost


Control the boost package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install boost

This command will install boost on the server.

yum remove boost

This command will un-install boost on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove boost, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove boost

This command will un-install boost on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove boost when using the -y flag.

yum update boost

This command will update boost to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove boost, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update boost

This command will update boost to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove boost when using the -y flag.

yum info boost

This command will show you core information about the boost package.

yum deplist boost

This command will show you the dependencies for boost. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.
