Description:

freeglut is a completely open source alternative to the OpenGL Utility Toolkit (GLUT) library with an OSI approved free software license. GLUT was originally written by Mark Kilgard to support the sample programs in the second edition OpenGL 'RedBook'. Since then, GLUT has been used in a wide variety of practical applications because it is simple, universally available and highly portable. freeglut allows the user to create and manage windows containing OpenGL contexts on a wide range of platforms and also read the mouse, keyboard and joystick functions.

Handy Yum Commands for freeglut


Control the freeglut package with the following handy commands outlined below.

Description of Command

yum install freeglut

This command will install freeglut on the server.

yum remove freeglut

This command will un-install freeglut on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove freeglut, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove freeglut

This command will un-install freeglut on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove freeglut when using the -y flag.

yum update freeglut

This command will update freeglut to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove freeglut, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update freeglut

This command will update freeglut to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove freeglut when using the -y flag.

yum info freeglut

This command will show you core information about the freeglut package.

yum deplist freeglut
