Description:

The gd graphics library allows your code to quickly draw images complete with lines, arcs, text, multiple colors, cut and paste from other images, and flood fills, and to write out the result as a PNG or JPEG file. This is particularly useful in Web applications, where PNG and JPEG are two of the formats accepted for inline images by most browsers. Note that gd is not a paint program.

Handy Yum Commands for gd


Control the gd package with the following handy commands outlined below.

Description of Command

yum install gd

This command will install gd on the server.

yum remove gd

This command will un-install gd on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove gd, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove gd

This command will un-install gd on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove gd when using the -y flag.

yum update gd

This command will update gd to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove gd, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update gd

This command will update gd to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove gd when using the -y flag.

yum info gd

This command will show you core information about the gd package.

yum deplist gd

This command will show you the dependencies for gd. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update gd

This command will check if there is an update waiting on gd. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
