Hesiod is a system which uses existing DNS functionality to provide access to databases of information that changes infrequently. It is often used to distribute information which might otherwise kept in the /etc/passwd, /etc/group, and /etc/printcap files over a network, eliminating the need to ensure the files are synchronized among multiple hosts. This package contains the header files and libraries required for building programs which use Hesiod.

Handy Yum Commands for hesiod-devel


Control the hesiod-devel package with the following handy commands outlined below.

This command will install hesiod-devel on the server.

yum remove hesiod-devel

This command will un-install hesiod-devel on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove hesiod-devel, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove hesiod-devel

This command will un-install hesiod-devel on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove hesiod-devel when using the -y flag.

yum update hesiod-devel

This command will update hesiod-devel to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove hesiod-devel, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update hesiod-devel
