Description:

Mod_perl incorporates a Perl interpreter into the Apache web server, so that the Apache web server can directly execute Perl code. Mod_perl links the Perl runtime library into the Apache web server and provides an object-oriented Perl interface for Apache's C language API. The end result is a quicker CGI script turnaround process, since no external Perl interpreter has to be started. Install mod_perl if you're installing the Apache web server and you'd like for it to directly incorporate a Perl interpreter.

Handy Yum Commands for mod_perl


Control the mod_perl package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install mod_perl

This command will install mod_perl on the server.

yum remove mod_perl

This command will un-install mod_perl on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove mod_perl, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove mod_perl

This command will un-install mod_perl on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove mod_perl when using the -y flag.

yum update mod_perl

This command will update mod_perl to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove mod_perl, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update mod_perl

This command will update mod_perl to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove mod_perl when using the -y flag.

yum info mod_perl

This command will show you core information about the mod_perl package.

yum deplist mod_perl

This command will show you the dependencies for mod_perl. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update mod_perl

This command will check if there is an update waiting on mod_perl. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
