Description:

This package provides Python bindings for libvolume_key, a library for manipulating storage volume encryption keys and storing them separately from volumes. The main goal of the software is to allow restoring access to an encrypted hard drive if the primary user forgets the passphrase. The encryption key back up can also be useful for extracting data after a hardware or software failure that corrupts the header of the encrypted volume, or to access the company data after an employee leaves abruptly. volume_key currently supports only the LUKS volume encryption format. Support for other formats is possible, some formats are planned for future releases.

Handy Yum Commands for python-volume_key


Control the python-volume_key package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install python-volume_key

This command will install python-volume_key on the server.

yum remove python-volume_key

This command will un-install python-volume_key on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove python-volume_key, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove python-volume_key

This command will un-install python-volume_key on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove python-volume_key when using the -y flag.

yum update python-volume_key

This command will update python-volume_key to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove python-volume_key, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update python-volume_key

This command will update python-volume_key to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove python-volume_key when using the -y flag.

yum info python-volume_key

This command will show you core information about the python-volume_key package.

yum deplist python-volume_key

This command will show you the dependencies for python-volume_key. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update python-volume_key

This command will check if there is an update waiting on python-volume_key. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
