Description:

Scrub writes patterns on files or disk devices to make retrieving the data more difficult. It operates in one of three modes: 1) the special file corresponding to an entire disk is scrubbed and all data on it is destroyed; 2) a regular file is scrubbed and only the data in the file (and optionally its name in the directory entry) is destroyed; or 3) a regular file is created, expanded until the file system is full, then scrubbed as in 2).

Handy Yum Commands for scrub


Control the scrub package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install scrub

This command will install scrub on the server.

yum remove scrub

This command will un-install scrub on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove scrub, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove scrub

This command will un-install scrub on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove scrub when using the -y flag.

yum update scrub

This command will update scrub to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove scrub, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update scrub

This command will update scrub to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove scrub when using the -y flag.

yum info scrub

This command will show you core information about the scrub package.

yum deplist scrub

This command will show you the dependencies for scrub. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update scrub

This command will check if there is an update waiting on scrub. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
