Snappy is a compression/decompression library. It does not aim for maximum compression, or compatibility with any other compression library; instead, it aims for very high speeds and reasonable compression. For instance, compared to the fastest mode of zlib, Snappy is an order of magnitude faster for most inputs, but the resulting compressed files are anywhere from 20% to 100% bigger.

Control the snappy package with the following handy commands outlined below.
yum install snappy
This command will install snappy on the server.
yum remove snappy
This command will un-install snappy on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove snappy, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
yum -y remove snappy
This command will un-install snappy on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove snappy when using the -y flag.
yum update snappy
This command will update snappy to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove snappy, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
