The Mayavi project includes two related packages for 3-dimensional visualization: * Mayavi2: A tool for easy and interactive visualization of data. * TVTK: A Traits-based wrapper for the Visualization Toolkit, a popular open-source visualization library. These operate at different levels of abstraction. TVTK manipulates visualization objects, while Mayavi2 lets you operate on your data, and then see the results. Most users either use the Mayavi user interface or program to its scripting interface; you probably don't need to interact with TVTK unless you want to create a new Mayavi module.

Handy Yum Commands for Mayavi


Control the Mayavi package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

yum install Mayavi

This command will install Mayavi on the server.

yum remove Mayavi

This command will un-install Mayavi on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove Mayavi, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove Mayavi

This command will un-install Mayavi on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove Mayavi when using the -y flag.

yum update Mayavi

This command will update Mayavi to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove Mayavi, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update Mayavi

This command will update Mayavi to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove Mayavi when using the -y flag.

yum info Mayavi

This command will show you core information about the Mayavi package.

yum deplist Mayavi

This command will show you the dependencies for Mayavi. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update Mayavi

This command will check if there is an update waiting on Mayavi. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
