Am-utils includes an updated version of Amd, the popular BSD automounter. An automounter is a program which maintains a cache of mounted filesystems. Filesystems are mounted when they are first referenced by the user and unmounted after a certain period of inactivity. Amd supports a variety of filesystems, including NFS, UFS, CD-ROMS and local drives. You should install am-utils if you need a program for automatically mounting and unmounting filesystems.

Handy Yum Commands for am-utils


Control the am-utils package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install am-utils

This command will install am-utils on the server.

yum remove am-utils

This command will un-install am-utils on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove am-utils, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove am-utils

This command will un-install am-utils on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove am-utils when using the -y flag.

yum update am-utils

This command will update am-utils to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove am-utils, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update am-utils

This command will update am-utils to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove am-utils when using the -y flag.

yum info am-utils

This command will show you core information about the am-utils package.

yum deplist am-utils

This command will show you the dependencies for am-utils. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update am-utils

This command will check if there is an update waiting on am-utils. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
