Description:

The EventLog library aims to be a replacement of the simple syslog() API provided on UNIX systems. The major difference between EventLog and syslog is that EventLog tries to add structure to messages. EventLog provides an interface to build, format and output an event record. The exact format and output method can be customized by the administrator via a configuration file. This package is the runtime part of the library.

Handy Yum Commands for eventlog


Control the eventlog package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install eventlog

This command will install eventlog on the server.

yum remove eventlog

This command will un-install eventlog on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove eventlog, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove eventlog

This command will un-install eventlog on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove eventlog when using the -y flag.

yum update eventlog

This command will update eventlog to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove eventlog, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update eventlog

This command will update eventlog to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove eventlog when using the -y flag.

yum info eventlog

This command will show you core information about the eventlog package.

yum deplist eventlog

This command will show you the dependencies for eventlog. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update eventlog

This command will check if there is an update waiting on eventlog. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
