Description:

The nwipe is a command that will securely erase disks using a variety of recognized methods. It is a fork of the dwipe command used by Darik's Boot and Nuke (dban). Nwipe was created out of need to run the DBAN dwipe command outside of DBAN. This allows it to use any host distribution which gives better hardware support. It is essentially the same as dwipe, with a few changes: - pthreads is used instead of fork - The parted library is used to detect drives - The code is designed to be compiled with gcc

Handy Yum Commands for nwipe


Control the nwipe package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install nwipe

This command will install nwipe on the server.

yum remove nwipe

This command will un-install nwipe on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove nwipe, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove nwipe

This command will un-install nwipe on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove nwipe when using the -y flag.

yum update nwipe

This command will update nwipe to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove nwipe, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update nwipe

This command will update nwipe to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove nwipe when using the -y flag.

yum info nwipe

This command will show you core information about the nwipe package.

yum deplist nwipe
