Description:

UCARP allows a couple of hosts to share common virtual IP addresses in order to provide automatic failover. It is a portable userland implementation of the secure and patent-free Common Address Redundancy Protocol (CARP, OpenBSD's alternative to the patents-bloated VRRP). Strong points of the CARP protocol are: very low overhead, cryptographically signed messages, interoperability between different operating systems and no need for any dedicated extra network link between redundant hosts.

Handy Yum Commands for ucarp


Control the ucarp package with the following handy commands outlined below.


Command

Description of Command

yum install ucarp

This command will install ucarp on the server.

yum remove ucarp

This command will un-install ucarp on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove ucarp, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove ucarp

This command will un-install ucarp on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove ucarp when using the -y flag.

yum update ucarp

This command will update ucarp to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove ucarp, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update ucarp

This command will update ucarp to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove ucarp when using the -y flag.

yum info ucarp

This command will show you core information about the ucarp package.

yum deplist ucarp

This command will show you the dependencies for ucarp. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.
