Description:

GnuPG is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440 and the S/MIME standard as described by several RFCs. GnuPG 2.0 is a newer version of GnuPG with additional support for S/MIME. It has a different design philosophy that splits functionality up into several modules. The S/MIME and smartcard functionality is provided by the gnupg2-smime package.

Handy Yum Commands for gnupg2


Control the gnupg2 package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install gnupg2

This command will install gnupg2 on the server.

yum remove gnupg2

This command will un-install gnupg2 on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove gnupg2, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove gnupg2

This command will un-install gnupg2 on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove gnupg2 when using the -y flag.

yum update gnupg2

This command will update gnupg2 to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove gnupg2, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update gnupg2

This command will update gnupg2 to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove gnupg2 when using the -y flag.

yum info gnupg2

This command will show you core information about the gnupg2 package.

yum deplist gnupg2

This command will show you the dependencies for gnupg2. Thankfully, when using Yum, if dependencies are required, these are also installed at the same time so you don't have to worry too much about that.

yum check-update gnupg2

This command will check if there is an update waiting on gnupg2. When you run this command this will return nothing if there is nothing to update, or, will return the package name if the package is due to be updated.
