Security-enhanced Linux is a feature of the Linux® kernel and a number of utilities with enhanced security functionality designed to add mandatory access controls to Linux. The Security-enhanced Linux kernel contains new architectural components originally developed to improve the security of the Flask operating system. These architectural components provide general support for the enforcement of many kinds of mandatory access control policies, including those based on the concepts of Type Enforcement®, Role-based Access Control, and Multi-level Security. libselinux provides an API for SELinux applications to get and set process and file security contexts and to obtain security policy decisions. Required for any applications that use the SELinux API.

Handy Yum Commands for libselinux


Control the libselinux package with the following handy commands outlined below.

Description of Command

yum install libselinux

This command will install libselinux on the server.

yum remove libselinux

This command will un-install libselinux on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove libselinux, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove libselinux

This command will un-install libselinux on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove libselinux when using the -y flag.

yum update libselinux

This command will update libselinux to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove libselinux, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update libselinux

This command will update libselinux to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove libselinux when using the -y flag.
