XZ Utils are an attempt to make LZMA compression easy to use on free (as in freedom) operating systems. This is achieved by providing tools and libraries which are similar to use than the equivalents of the most popular existing compression algorithms. LZMA is a general purpose compression algorithm designed by Igor Pavlov as part of 7-Zip. It provides high compression ratio while keeping the decompression speed fast.

Control the xz package with the following handy commands outlined below.
yum install xz
This command will install xz on the server.
yum remove xz
This command will un-install xz on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove xz, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
yum -y remove xz
This command will un-install xz on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove xz when using the -y flag.
yum update xz
This command will update xz to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove xz, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.
