Description:

The backports namespace is a namespace reserved for features backported from the Python standard library to older versions of Python 2. Packages that exist in the backports namespace in Fedora should not provide their own backports/__init__.py, but instead require this package. Backports to earlier versions of Python 3, if they exist, do not need this package because of changes made in Python 3.3 in PEP 420 (http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0420/).

Handy Yum Commands for python27-backports


Control the python27-backports package with the following handy commands outlined below.

yum install python27-backports

This command will install python27-backports on the server.

yum remove python27-backports

This command will un-install python27-backports on the server. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove python27-backports, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y remove python27-backports

This command will un-install python27-backports on the server. When you run this command with th e -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove python27-backports when using the -y flag.

yum update python27-backports

This command will update python27-backports to the latest version. When you run this command, you will be asked if you are sure that you want to remove python27-backports, so you have to manually confirm that you want to do this.

yum -y update python27-backports

This command will update python27-backports to the latest version. When you run this command with the -y flag, you will not be prompted to check that you are sure you want to remove the package - so be sure you absolutely want to remove python27-backports when using the -y flag.
